Michael Pezza has been a lawyer in Boston with a civil litigation
and business law practice since 1980. In addition to BDRS and
his law practice, Michael is on the Adjunct Faculty at
Northeastern University School of Law, and is an attorney
member of the Online Media Legal Network at Harvard Law
School's Berkman Center for Internet & Society and its Digital
Media Law Project.
Michael started his own firm in late 2004, before which he was
Senior Counsel in the Boston office of Holland & Knight LLP,
one of the world’s largest law firms, where he was a member of
the firm’s Litigation Section, Intellectual Property Litigation
Team, and Media Law Team.
Before that he was for many years an equity partner in
Morrison, Mahoney & Miller, L.L.P., a leading Boston-based
litigation and insurance law firm, where his litigation practice
included both plaintiff and defense cases, and work with major
U.S. insurers and syndicates at Lloyd’s of London and other
London Market or European insurers.
As a litigator, Michael has litigated and tried jury and non-jury
cases, argued appeals, and resolved disputes in state and
federal courts in Massachusetts and elsewhere.
Over the years, Michael has been a well-received speaker on a
variety of matters. He has been a continuing legal education
program chair and faculty member, has spoken to business,
educator, and human rights groups, has been a panelist on a
local television program, and has appeared as a law school
guest lecturer.
Michael is a member of several bar associations and
professional organizations, with a focus on litigation and
dispute resolution.
Michael's pro bono work includes the successful representation
of a teen-ager from China who sought asylum in the United
States after he was imprisoned and tortured in China because
of his religious beliefs, and representation of artists in a variety
of matters.

A unique perspective
The range of Michael’s experience as a lawyer, including his
experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, and
businesses as well as individuals, gives him a unique

other ADR services, and his role as a neutral. He is attuned to

lawyers, insurers, or other representatives. All of this combines

ADR training and affiliations
Michael received his primary mediation training through the
Mediation Works Incorporated Executive 40-Hour Training
Program, and also completed the MWI advanced training
program in divorce mediation. He mediates cases through the
MWI program in courts in and around Boston.
He is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and
the New England Chapter of the ACR, the American Bar
Association Section of Dispute Resolution, other ABA section
committees concerning dispute resolution, and the Boston Bar
Association Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee.
